Fairfax County is a great place to get involved in a variety of sports activities, from basketball to soccer and even golf. On Saturday, February 29th, the NCS Mixed Intramural Basketball League concluded its fifth season with its semifinal and championship games. Two teams from the South County Teen Center and Reston Teen Center faced off in the championship game, with the former emerging victorious by two points. During the 10-week season, eight youth teams comprised of teenagers and community center participants had the opportunity to play and compete.
Golf Fairfax organizes an impressive selection of golf tournaments at Fairfax County Park Authority golf courses throughout July. Celebrate Independence Day with two red, white and blue tournaments. To book a field, gym, track or specific event, you must become an Organization Event Coordinator (OEC) for our online system, CommunityUSE. Once approved, you can submit your request through CommunityUSE. Fairfax County Community and Community Services also offer a wide range of sports activities.
Most of these sports are usually played outdoors but can be allowed indoors in bad weather or as off-season fitness training. However, specific approval must be obtained from the Community Use Section of the FCPS for any sports and athletic activities not listed on their website. Fairfax County has joined three other Virginia locations to create SportsNova, a marketing partnership aimed at promoting Northern Virginia as a destination for sporting events. This includes Segra Field in Loudoun County and the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center in Stafford. Fairfax County sports leagues also offer unique opportunities for youth and adults to participate in a wide variety of sports activities. The NCS Intramural Sports League offers soccer and flag soccer by season, in addition to one-day volleyball and kickball tournaments.
There are no barriers to participation in this league. Preliminary talks have been held in Fairfax County about the possibility of opening other indoor and outdoor sports complexes.
